Rep. Sykes Releases Statement on Israel-Hamas Ceasefire, Hostage Deal

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, U.S. Representative Emilia Sykes (OH-13) issued the following statement regarding the ceasefire and hostage release deal between Israel and Hamas:

“I am relieved to learn that Israel and Hamas have implemented a ceasefire deal that will bring home dozens of hostages who have been held in captivity, and end 15 months of conflict in Gaza. Israel is one of our most important strategic allies, and the finalization of this deal is a critical step toward fortifying peace, democracy, and freedom in the region. I thank the Biden-Harris Administration for their leadership and efforts to facilitate this deal.

“We must never forget the heinous attacks launched by Hamas terrorists on October 7th that started this conflict. I am overjoyed to know that hostages will be returning home after being held captive for more than a year in brutal conditions. I will continue to stand firmly and unequivocally with the Israeli people and the right for Israel to exist and defend itself.

“The finalization of this ceasefire deal will also allow for humanitarian aid and economic assistance to be provided to the Palestinian people who overwhelmingly want peace. The next step toward lasting peace requires shared acknowledgement — it must recognize the rights to statehood of both the Israelis and Palestinians people, and provide full equal rights for every citizen in each state.”
